What to experience in Me Cung Cave

A Pathway Like a Maze

The name “Maze Cave” is aptly chosen, reflecting the intricate layout of the cave. It has a winding structure with complicated pathways, numerous chambers, and walls that create a feeling of being in a labyrinth.

The cave is about 65 meters long, 20 meters high above sea level, and is divided into four sections, each containing multiple paths and areas adorned with stunning stalactites and stalagmites.

A Beautiful Saltwater Lake Nestled Within the Mountain

At the end of the fourth section of the cave lies one of the most breathtaking sights in Ha Long Bay—Me Cung Lake. This saltwater lake, surrounded by towering limestone mountains, has a circumference of about 1 km. It has an opening to the sea, causing its water level to rise and fall with the tides daily.

Inside the lake is a vibrant ecosystem featuring corals, pearls, green mussels, and clams. Additionally, the lake’s edge is home to many endemic plant species unique to Ha Long Bay. Upon exiting Maze Cave, the Ha Long Bay Management Board has constructed a resting station, where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the lake and the rare tranquility of the area.

Cultural Relics of Ancient Vietnamese People

Within the four sections of the cave, archaeologists have discovered evidence indicating that this site was inhabited by ancient Vietnamese people around 3,000 to 4,000 years ago. Artifacts such as stone spearheads and tools suggest that prehistoric people here knew how to make tools and use fire for cooking.
