The History of Bai Tho Mountain

Originally known as Truyen Dang Son (Shining the Light Mountain) or Roi Den Mountain (Black King Mountain), Bai Tho Mountain earned its new name in 1468.

King Le Thanh Tong was so captivated by the mountain’s beauty that he had a poem carved on the cliffs, hence the name “Poem Mountain.” Throughout the centuries, additional poems were added to the cliffs, and today, nine poems can still be seen.

Besides its poetic significance, Bai Tho Mountain played a crucial role in various historical events. It served as a strategic location for watchtowers and lighthouses, aiding in the resistance against the Mongol Yuan Dynasty and the American War.

In 1930, the flag of the Vietnam Communist Party was raised on the mountain, symbolizing the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people.
